FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a session?

Each session is for 50 minutes. Unless you book a 90 minute session.

What can I expect from a typical session?

It is up to you how you choose to use each session. However, typically, each session will start with a brief look at where we left off in the last session and then anything left over or to follow up from that. Then I tend to see where it goes. I am a proactive therapist so I will ask questions, encourage exploration and different perspectives. At times you will just need to vent, others you will need support and there will also be times when I teach you tools to use when you feel triggered or anxious etc. I am a very warm and friendly therapist. Sessions are conversational. Sometimes heavy and exhausting, sometimes light and upbeat, sometimes insightful and motivational and sometimes challenging and unravelling.

How many sessions will I need and how often?

This is very tricky to answer as everyone is different, and the process varies from person to person. However, most of my clients have regular weekly sessions for at least 8 to 12 months and some are ready to move on sooner or later than that. It can often depend on what you are bringing and if you have had counselling before. When there has been childhood trauma and no previous experience of counselling it is likely you will need at least 12 if not 24 months of therapy. Therapy is not a quick fix, it is a journey and requires a commitment to the process. Change and healing is gradual. You tend to just find yourself there. Then time is needed to hold yourself there. Then eventually you know you are ready to do more of life on your own. We discuss your progress at different points and you are always in control of how many and how often you want or need sessions.

Do I have to have weekly sessions?

When you begin therapy you tend to be stuck in survival mode with a lot of limiting belief's and conditions of worth. As we work through those issues you will begin to unravel and loosen them up, releasing trapped and stuck emotions and trauma from the body which can make you feel vulnerable and even fragile. If there is a gap between sessions you can slump back into survival mode again, and take one step forward and two steps back. This just prolongs the process and means someone having sessions every two weeks will take much longer to feel progress. It is important however, to start to spread sessions out at the right time to create challenge and encourage more confidence in maintaining balance and wellbeing. So I will work with you to find the right time to start spreading your sessions out to every 2 weeks, 3 weeks and then once a month and so on.

Do you tell anyone anything about my sessions?

Everything we discuss in your sessions is strictly confidential between you and I, this is essential. There are however rare and exceptional circumstances where I may need to break confidentiality, such as;

  • If I believed that you or a child were in immediate danger

  • If I were issued with a court order

  • If I suspect you are/were involved in a terrorist or criminal activity which may cause harm to yourself or to others

  • If you request for me to write to your GP or other professional - although I would need your informed written consent to do so, unless you were in immediate danger and unable to give consent.

Can I have two or more sessions a week?

Yes, you can have as many sessions a week as you need. Some clients prefer two or more separate sessions a week and others prefer to book a two hour session ie one session after, and others prefer a 90 minute session each week.

What is the difference between an online and In person session?

In an ideal world a face to face session is always going to feel more profound than online. Just because we spend so much of our time on our devices in a world that is so instant, demanding and full of distractions. Time to 'be' in person with another is more immediate and creates the space to be more present. However I have clients all over the world so it is not always practical or possible to have an in person session. In terms of the quality of the sessions, everything is energy and we are therefore all connected so I can read your energy just as affectively online as I would in person. In fact many clients who have had regular in person sessions with me and then a one off online session due to being unwell etc often decide to stay with online sessions as they say they don't feel there is any difference and it is more convenient as there is no travel costs or time to and from sessions to factor in.  Online sessions however, do require a comfortable room where you will not be seen, overheard or interrupted.

How will I know when I don't need therapy anymore?

You can stop your sessions whenever you choose although my aim is to help you get you to where you want to be and feel confident in maintaining that, so I will work with you to explore when you feel ready to start spreading out your sessions to every 2 weeks and then every month or every 3 months etc. and/or when you feel ready to stop/pause. However many clients choose to stick with monthly sessions with me for years and see it as part of their self care routine to check in/off load and stay aligned.

Can I just book a session with Vicki or do I need to book a 15 minute call or an introductory session first?

You will need to book a a 15 minute call or a 50 minute introductory session with me first before you can book in any counselling sessions. Following that I will email you an e-form to complete and sign online. Once I have received the completed forms I will email you to confirm you can go ahead and book in your counselling sessions.

What if I need to cancel or change my appointments?

Just log in to your account any time to cancel or rearrange your appointments - please remember you must provide more than 24 hours notice to cancel or change an appointment or you will still be charged. If you have booked manually please email me at least 24 hours before your appointment time.

Can I book more than one appointment at a time?

Yes, most clients prefer to book 4 to 6 sessions at a time to avoid missing out on their preferred day and time.

Can I book and reserve a regular appointment at the same time each week?

Yes. You can either buy a block of sessions credits and then book all the regular appointments you want. Or you can contact me and I can book and reserve the appointments for you and invoice you either monthly or for 6,8 or 12 sessions.

What if I can't find an available appointment day and time?

Unfortunately I do at times get fully booked. So it is best to book your appointments well in advance. However you can also add yourself to a waiting list for the appointment you would like so if someone cancels you will be notified and can then go ahead and book.

What are your session fees?

Regular sessions are £100. Or £160 for a 90 minute session. If you wish to book via email and pay via invoice this drops to £95 and £155.

Is there a way I can spread the cost or buy blocks of credits?

Yes, some people choose to buy a block of session credits at a discounted rate in blocks of 8 or 12. You can buy these blocks of session credits online when you go to book a session. Just select to either 'Pay now' Or 'Buy a plan' and select either 8 or 12 then checkout. At checkout you can then choose to use Clearpay to spread the cost of the payment.

What sort of issues do you work with and do you have a speciality?

I specialise in working with anxiety disorders and trauma but my experience covers a wide range of issues from relationship issues, depression, lack of self confidence, stress, trauma, grief and loss, spirituality, LOA, awakening and more...

Do you take payments from health insurance companies?

I am afraid not, I do not work with health insurance companies.

How do I log on for an online session?

If you don't have Zoom you can download it for free at https://zoom.us/download

When you purchase an online session you will be immediately emailed a Zoom link for your session day and time. Just wait for your session time and click on the link in the email.

Where is your private practice for In Person sessions?

When you purchase an In Person session I will email you with travel and parking information for my private practice near Woking in Surrey, UK. There are direct trains from London Waterloo (just 25 minutes) and the train station is only an 8-10 minute walk to my private practice. For those that drive my private practice is just 10-15 minutes from the M3, A3 & M25 (Junction 10 & 11). Parking is available at the practice or on local roads.

Can I mix and match in person and online sessions?

Yes, some people choose to have an online session when they are feeling under the weather or whilst on holiday or a work trip. Some like to have one session a month in person and the rest online to reduce travel costs. It is entirely up to you.

What if I get into financial difficulty or run out of funds to pay for sessions?

Life can throw us all sorts of curveballs at times. I don't like to leave anyone without support so should this be this case please be honest with me and I will do my very best to try and find a way forward.

Can I book a session with you if I am under 18?

I am afraid not. Whilst I have worked with children and young people in the past for many years I now only work with people over 18.

Do you work with couples?

No I do not work with couples but often I find couples benefit from their own individual therapy before commencing couples therapy. So if you are looking to have couples therapy I would be happy to see you on an individual basis first so that you can get clarity about how you feel and prepare you for couples counselling. Please note I can only see you, your partner will need to find their own counsellor to prepare for couples counselling, or vice a versa.

Can I refer you to my friends and colleagues?

Yes, most of my clients come from referrals from other clients so feel free to direct them to this website where they can book an introductory call or session with me. Please be aware though each client deserves to have a counsellor who knows nothing about them so I will not be able to work with people close to you such as your partner, children or parents etc or anyone you regularly discuss in your sessions.

I am having trouble with your website can you help?

Yes, pleas go to the contact page and let me know what the problem is.

I am curious about your energy work, do you do energy readings?

If working more alternatively is of interest to you then please head over to my 'Energy Empath' website where you can find out more about my energy work and Soul Therapy Sessions.
